Citizenship is a way of life, it involves everyone in playing a full part in their community. Good citizens are people who seek to improve their own lives, as well as the well-being of others who share the planet with them and of the generations still to come. Good citizens seek to include everyone in the life of the community, at work, in social and leisure activities. Today, more than ever we live in a global community in which: Distances and time barriers have shrunk as a result of the development of new communications technology. People travel much more widely, often covering vast distances. Money for new development projects e.g. factories, bridges, roads, schools, etc. comes from investment made in financial centres on every continent. The media provides instant information about events across the globe. Global citizens are: People like you and me who benefit from the process of global links. Organisations such as UNICEF (the United Nations Children’s Fund) whose role is to support and campaign for young people worldwide. The Red Cross or Red Crescent who provide medical help wherever it is needed. Global companies such as Procter & Gamble (P&G) who help to provide goods and services around the world. The governments and international bodies such as the United Nations who establish the rules that govern international relations.
